Scarring Treatment in Geelong
What is Scarring?
You did the hard part. You got through the breakouts, the injury, the surgery, whatever it was, and yet your skin still carries the reminder in its texture or tone. That's the frustrating thing about scarring, it lingers long after the thing that caused it has gone.
We understand how much that can wear on your confidence. The way light catches the uneven texture, the makeup that settles into it rather than covering it, the feeling that you've moved on but your skin hasn't quite let you. Smoothing and softening that is some of the most rewarding work we do, because it's often the final piece in someone feeling truly comfortable in their skin. At our holistic skin clinic in Belmont, Geelong, we help improve the appearance of acne scars, surgical scars and other forms of skin scarring through personalised treatment plans.
Scarring happens when the skin has been through some kind of trauma, whether an injury, a surgical incision or a breakout, and the natural healing process leaves a lasting change behind. At its core, it's a loss of structural support caused by damage to collagen, the protein that keeps skin firm and smooth.
The Different Types of Skin Scars
Not all scars are the same, and knowing which type you have changes everything about how we approach it.
Acne scarring is textural, where the skin's surface is left uneven. This includes ice pick scars, boxcar scars, rolling scars and pitted scars
Post-breakout marks are different again. These are the flatter red, brown or purple marks left after a breakout, and they're really surface discolouration rather than true scarring, which means they're approached differently
Hypertrophic and keloid scars are raised scars caused by the body producing too much collagen as it heals. Some people are genetically more prone to these
Scarring comes down to how the skin heals after it's been damaged. When that healing is disrupted, or when there's been deeper or prolonged inflammation, the collagen can be laid down unevenly, either too little, leaving a depression, or too much, leaving a raised scar. Some people also have a genetic tendency to over produce collagen during healing, which makes them more prone to raised and keloid scarring.
Calming the Cause First
Here's something we're always honest about. If your acne is still active, the first thing we focus on is calming that, because there's little point working on existing scars while new ones are still forming. Getting your skin healthy and settled first means everything we do on the scarring side actually lasts. It's the difference between chasing the problem and getting ahead of it.
What Causes Skin Scars
How We Treat Skin Scars in Geelong
Because scar type, depth and age all change the right approach, we always start with a skin consultation to assess exactly what we're working with. This is especially important with raised or keloid-prone scarring, which needs careful, individual assessment rather than a standard protocol. From there, these are the treatments we draw on to improve the appearance of scarring and support smoother, more even skin.
Procell microchanneling, stimulates the skin's natural collagen and renewal response to help soften the appearance of textural scarring over time
Aerolase Neo Elite, supports overall skin quality and a more even, refreshed complexion
This is where it all starts, and it's nothing like a rushed fifteen-minute chat. At our Geelong clinic, we sit down properly, we use our OBSERV 520X skin analysis to see what's happening beneath the surface, and we look closely at your scarring, your skin and your history so we understand exactly what we're working with. You walk away with a clear, personalised plan built around your skin and your goals, not a generic protocol.

A Few Things You Might Be Wondering
-
We can do a lot to improve and soften the appearance of scarring and smooth your skin's texture, but we'll always be honest that scars can be improved rather than completely erased. What's realistic for you is something we'll talk through properly at your consultation.
-
This is such a good question, because they're often confused. True scarring is about texture, while the flat marks left after a breakout are usually discolouration. They're treated differently, which is exactly why we assess your skin first.
-
It depends on the type, depth and age of your scarring, so it's not something we can promise up front. We'll always give you a realistic picture rather than overselling a result.
